Tour to Springfield, Ohio and Beyond
Co-Sponsored by: Progress Through Preservation and The Hower House Victorians Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26, 2007 Please join your preservation friends on this exploration of interesting architecture in the Springfield, Ohio area. Our group will be visiting Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1908 Westcott House which is the singular example of Wright’s Prairie style work in Ohio. Akron’s own Lauren Burge, Principal of Chambers, Murphy & Burge Restoration Architects, served as lead architect on the restoration of Westcott House. Other sites in Springfield that are included in the tour are the newly renovated Springfield Art Museum and The Heritage Center of Clark County. This 1890 structure once housed municipal offices and an opera house. We plan to see buildings on the campus of Wittenberg University and the Pennsylvania House Museum among other delights in Springfield. All meals will be included except for our stop on the way home on Friday. One of our lunch venues is an 1860s schoolhouse. On the way home on Friday we will visit the Piatt Castles in West Liberty and the Holland Theatre in Bellefontaine. The Holland was built in 1931 and is the only Dutch themed theatre in the United States. The tour includes:
